Dr. Catherine Morffy Smith has broad expertise in infectious diseases, host-pathogen interaction, parasitology, microbiology, and immunology. During her doctoral training, Dr. Morffy Smith studied malaria infection in pregnancy and explored the capacity of the gut microbiota to modulate susceptibility to malaria infection. Her postdoctoral research focused on the pulmonary immune response to an opportunistic bacterial pathogen. As a researcher, Dr. Morffy Smith was supported by various fellowships, including National Institutes of Health (NIH) T32 pre- and postdoctoral training grants. In her role at EGC, Dr. Morffy Smith is enthusiastic about supporting entrepreneurs as they seek to further develop their innovative technologies. In her free time, Dr. Morffy Smith enjoys running, exploring the outdoors, and cooking for her friends and family.
