Data Joint

A Strategic Funding Roadmap Propels DataJoint’s Leadership in Scientific Workflows

$6M

Non-dilutive funding awarded

DataJoint’s story began with a scientist: Dimitri Yatsenko, an expert in data architecture and systems engineering who set aside a successful career to study the brain. Mr. Yastrenko soon realized that workflows in neuroscience labs were suboptimal, burdened by manual processes and a lack of rigor. Leveraging his expertise in data architecture, he invented a novel computational database to greatly improve lab processes and efficiencies and released it as an open-source project called DataJoint.

DataJoint realized that non-dilutive capital would be critical for developing their platform, and they have successfully secured over $6M in non-dilutive funding to-date.  To fully realize the potential of government grant and contract opportunities, DataJoint engaged EGC to develop a comprehensive Strategic Non-Dilutive Funding Plan that provided the company with a roadmap of non-dilutive funding opportunities and a clear process for securing funding. The DataJoint team has used this plan as a central resource as they execute on their technology development and fundraising priorities.

Today, DataJoint is a leader in high-complexity research, powering large-scale collaboration across dozens of labs and enabling petabyte-scale data processing. Its impact is highlighted by the landmark MICrONS study published in Nature, and its platform is now used by leading groups across neuroscience, pathology, and rehabilitation.

“Understanding the funding landscape and preparing a grant application requires attention to detail. EGC creates a process and structure around the submission process and coordinates everyone’s contributions. With EGC’s assistance, we have submitted multiple collaborative grants with leading academic institutions.”
