Partnering with EGC, Laser Thermal has secured $7.5 million SBIR awards from Department of War (DoW) and National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) to advance precision thermal metrology.

$7.5M

Non-dilutive funding awarded

Dr. John Gaskins and Dr. Patrick Hopkins spent decades advancing knowledge of how materials manage heat at the University of Virginia. When they founded Laser Thermal, they recognized that non-dilutive funding would be vital to translating their discoveries into industrial applications, from semiconductor and power electronics to thin films and coatings.

Since 2022, EGC has proudly partnered with Laser Thermal in securing 7 competitive SBIR/STTR awards totaling ~$7.5 million. These include multiple DoW contracts through DARPA and the Air Force, as well as the CHIPS for America Metrology SBIR Program from the NIST. This funding supports the development of cutting-edge metrology methods that improve the efficiency and quality of materials manufacturing for defense and domestic use.

Laser Thermal team is on the path of defining the future of thermal measurements.
